Dorothy Anna Marie Fritz was born May 16, 1921, the daughter of Henry and Alma Kehler Schneider. She died Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at her home in Denison, at the age of ninety-three.
Dorothy was born on a farm near Denison, Iowa where she grew up. Dorothy was baptized August 3, 1921, and confirmed April 5,1936, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. She received her elementary education in a rural school near Denison, and then attended the Denison High School. Dorothy was the oldest one to receive her GED in 1990 at Western Iowa Tech in Sioux City, Iowa.
June 12, 1941, Dorothy was united in marriage to Walter Bandow, the couple was blessed with birth of two children. Walter passed away in 1951. She later married Leonard Fritz on December 21, 1953, and made their home in East Boyer Township until moving to Denison in 1974.
Dorothy was a homemaker all her life, she worked at Iowa Masters Breeders Hatchery for a couple of years and was a news correspondent for East Boyer township for the Denison Bulletin for more than 20 years. She volunteered at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital and at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Dorothy had a strong Christian faith, and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. She was also a member of Ladies Aid and LWML, where she held the office of President, Treasurer and Secretary. Dorothy was a sentimental lady who enjoyed family history and memories. In her leisure time she enjoyed playing cards, reading, crocheting and other crafts.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Walter Bandow in 1951 and Leonard Fritz in 1987; daughter, Marjorie Clausen and her husband Ron; one granddaughter, Brenda Clausen; daughter-in-law, Sharon Bandow; one brother, Vince Schneider. Survivors include: one son, Charles Bandow of Denison; grandson, Tim Clausen of Ida Grove, Iowa; sister-in-law, Frieda Schneider of Denison, other relatives and friends.
