Marcella Kluver

September 23, 1921 — October 11, 2013

Marcella Josephine Kluver was born September 23, 1921, the daughter of Charles and Anna Brummer Quandt. She passed away Friday, October 11, 2013, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, at the age of 92.
Marcella was born on a farm near Charter Oak, Iowa. She received her education in rural schools near Charter Oak, St. Boniface Catholic Grade School and the Charter Oak High School. After completing her education she helped at home and cared for her younger siblings until moving to Des Moines, where she did housekeeping and worked as a nanny.
On December 30, 1940, Marcella was united in marriage to Raymond Kluver at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Charter Oak. The couple made their home on a farm near Anthon, later moving to Danbury and then Ute. She continued to live in Ute after the death of Raymond in 1965, until moving to Charter Oak in 1967, where she worked at the Frosty Treat, as a hot lunch cook at the school and as a cook at the Charter Oak Senior Center. In the summer of 2000, she moved to Denison to be closer to her family.
Marcella was a devoted member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and the Legion of Mary. She loved cooking for her family, making popcorn balls at Christmas time, and baking all kinds of breads and rolls. She enjoyed telling stories and being a comic to her grandchildren and was very proud of her children’s successes. It meant a lot to see her son Jerry on television and hearing son John on the radio. She enjoyed family reunions and Christmas holidays, visiting with her family and friends, playing BINGO, playing cards, and traveling to the casino occasionally. One of her more enjoyable times in her life was in 1986, when she was able to travel with family to Hawaii. Another highlight was traveling Amtrak to southern California for a sight-seeing trip including a trip to the Price Is Right game show. She also enjoyed receiving her first cell phone at age 90 to stay in close contact with family and friends.
Marcella was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond; two daughters, Joan Kluver and Jolene Hansman; two sisters: Marjorie in infancy; and Evelyn Jenkins and her husband, Romanan; six brothers: Harold, Paul, Bob, Francis (Butch), Norman, and Donald Quandt; and brother-in-law, Albert Kluver. Survivors include her six children: Jerry Kluver and his wife, Faylene of Ankeny; Juliana Schwanz and her husband, Arlo of Denison; John Kluver and his wife, Karla of Sergeant Bluff; Jeff Kluver and his wife, Becky of Webster City; Joel Kluver and his wife, Janet of Deloit; and Janelle Clausen and her husband, Mark of Danbury; one son-in-law, Larry Hansman of Carroll; 16 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Kluver of Carroll; one brother, Jim Quandt and his wife, Donna of Westside; six sisters-in-law: Pearl, Helen, LaRue, Velma, Veronica, and Ruth Quandt; many other relatives and friends.
