Abe Gronau

Albert John “Abe” Gronau was born October 8, 1942, son of Albert and Virginia Sandstrom Gronau in Denison, Iowa. He passed away Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at age of 71.
He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kiron, Iowa. He received his early education at Country School Stockholm #4 and later graduated from Denison High School with the class of 1960. Abe was united in marriage to Lynne Spack on April 7, 1963 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kiron and they were blessed with the birth of 4 children. The couple made their home in Kiron before moving to Rockport, Missouri for a short time. After moving back to Kiron they later made their home in Schleswig, Iowa.
Abe worked at IBP in Denison, MBP in Missouri, Denison Homes, Farmland before starting his own welding business in Kiron and later Schleswig. He was a very active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, where he was serving as president. He also served on various other boards and offices. He was the custodian for the Parish Cemetery and took great pride in its appearance.
In his younger years, Abe spent much time with his family at the family farm in Kiron. Abe was a very social person and enjoyed hunting, fishing, polka music and dancing, traveling, welding as a hobby and gardening and canning. He also spent time with his kids, grandkids and especially enjoyed his great grandson Khairo.
Abe was preceded in death by his parents, his son Scott, his wife Lynne in May of 2014; brother-in-law Lyle Kropf and sister-in-law Ruth Spack. Survivors include three daughters, Tracy and her husband, Todd; Michelle and Monica; four grandchildren, Jake and his wife, Miranda; Caitlin; Jessenia and Jack; and one great-grandson, Khairo; brother, Jerry and his wife, Barb; two sisters, Jean and Jane; brother-in-law, Kay; other relatives and friends.
