Adeline Ettleman

Adeline Louise Ettleman, the daughter of Henry and Mollie Petersen Christiansen, was born September 23, 1918. She passed away Saturday, June 4, 2016 at the age of 97 years, 8 months and 12 days. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa in 1931, and became a member of the Dow City Methodist Church in 1955.
On June 26, 1946, she was united in marriage to Keto Ettleman at Zion Lutheran Church in Hiawatha, Kansas. This union was blessed with the birth of four children including the surprise birth of twin boys, Bill and Bob, son Chuck and daughter Susan.
Adeline was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Before her marriage to Keto, she worked in the dental office of Dr. Servoss and at the Fair Store. After marriage, she was a farm wife and homemaker caring for her family. In 1965, she worked as a waitress at Ettleman’s Restaurant, a custodian at Midwestern College, and cooked for the Dow City-Arion Community School District. Of all her accomplishments, she was best known as the lady who made the cinnamon rolls at Ace’s Convenience Store in Dow City. For the past 5 years, she was a resident of Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison where she received excellent care.
In her leisure time she enjoyed cooking, spending time with family and friends and playing cards every Tuesday at her house with Francie, KayLou, Joann, Dorothy and who ever could fill in.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Keto in 1991; son Bill in 2004; three great-grandchildren; her parents; mother and father-in-law, Asa and Mary (Dude) Ettleman; brother, Charles; and sisters, Helen Bryan and Lucille Brown. Survivors include: sons, Bob and his wife, Judy ; Chuck and his wife, Diane; and her daughter, Susan and her special friend, Benny Mulligan; eight grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and was to become a great great-grandmother in August; daughter-in-law, Pat and her husband, Keith; two brothers, Bob and his wife, Artie; and Ray. Also special neighbors, Bill and Becky and many relatives and friends.
