Arlene Prentice

Arlene Claire (Tech) Jones, Prentice was born March 31, 1941, to Roy and Pearl (Birkhofer) Tech on a farm near Dow City, Iowa. She died September 2, 2013 at her home in Flower Mound Texas at the age of 72.

Arlene was baptized at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Dow City, Iowa, on February 4, 1945, and confirmed in the Lutheran faith on June 20, 1954. In February of 1946, her family moved to a farm east of Charter Oak, Iowa. She attended Hanover #8 country school through the eighth grade and then attended the Charter Oak Community High School from which she graduated with the class of 1959. After high school she attended Concordia Teachers College at Seward, Nebraska, receiving her diploma in June of 1963. Her first teaching assignment was to Detroit, Michigan where she taught grades first and second at Gethsemane Lutheran School. Arlene was united in marriage to Wesley K. Jones on August 23, 1964 at Gethsemane Lutheran church in Detroit, Michigan. They were blessed with two sons, Douglas Paul, and Gary Alan. In 1969 her family moved to Oregon. She was a stay at home mother for 10 years. In 1979 she moved to Bend, Oregon, where she worked for Pape’ Bros, Inc. as a secretary. She married Bruce Prentice January 11, 1981 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bend, Oregon. In 1986 they moved to a logging camp at Hobart Bay, Alaska, and eventually to Juneau, Alaska, where she worked as an executive secretary/assistant for Klukwan, Inc. In 1994 she retired and after leaving Alaska, moved to various places with her husband following his jobs. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, reading, trying new recipes, music and the outdoors. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and sister.

Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; an infant sister, Marjorie Ann; and two brothers, Leroy aged eight, and Ralph aged 76. She is survived by her husband Bruce of Flower Mound, Texas; two sons, Douglas Paul and his wife Tracy of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Gary Alan and his wife Shawn of Waco, Texas; six grandchildren: Jordan, Noah, Jakob, Elizabeth, Isaiah, and Kylee; one brother, Dale, and his wife Jane of Avoca, Iowa; one sister, Darlene Mattson of Perry, Ohio; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Dow City, Saturday, September 21, at 10:30 am. Arlene’s nephew, the Reverend Vance Tech will be officiating.
