Bonnie Johannsen

April 4, 1936 — January 20, 2017

Bonnie Jean Johannsen was born April 4, 1936, the daughter of Elmer and Bernice Doakes Quandt. She died at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa, Friday, January 20, 2017, at the age of eighty.
Bonnie was bon at the home of her parents near Charter Oak, Iowa. She was baptized and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. She received her education in the Charter Oak Community Schools, graduating from high school with the class of 1954. After completing her education, Bonnie began her first job in bookkeeping at the Montgomery Wards Department Store in Denison. She was united in marriage to Val Jean Johannsen at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, September 30, 1956. The couple settled in Denison and was blessed with the birth of three children. She eventually began cooking at the Denison High School and later at Eventide Lutheran Home where she worked for thirty years.
In her leisure time, Bonnie enjoyed swimming at the Aquatic Center, Baking and a speciality included her best and awesome cinnamon rolls in Crawford County. Other interests include: reading, walking her dog, country music, and attending concerts in later years. She was a loving mother and grandmother who also had a special love for her dogs. In November of 1999, she moved into the Eventide Senior Housing and due to failing health, Bonnie moved into Eventide Nursing Home.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Donald Quandt. Survivors include her daughter, Jenell Higginbottom and her husband, Brian of Deloit, Iowa; two sons, Jeff Johannsen and his wife, Lori; Joel Johannsen and his wife, Melissa; six grandchildren, Calli Jean Johannsen, Shanntelle Rodrigues, Tory Johannsen, Dylan Johannsen Christy Anthofer and her husband, Steve and Laura Furne and her husband, Keith; seven great-grandchildren, John Addy, Millie and Eve Anthofer, and Elijal, Lucas and Mya Furne; one sister, Mary Lou Denker and her husband, Irwin of Waukee, Iowa; former husband, Val Jean Johannsen and his friend, Jean Kropf of Kiron; extended family, Wes and Dianne Furne of Denison;
