Evelyn Alma Teut was born August 7, 1922, the daughter of John and Emma Schoenfeld Christiansen. She passed away Thursday, September 5, 2013, at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, at the age of 91.
Evelyn was born on the family farm in Soldier Township, Crawford County, Iowa. She was baptized in Christ on September 17, 1922, and confirmed April 14, 1935, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Soldier Township, Charter Oak, Iowa. Evelyn received her education in rural school Soldier #3 from 1927 - 1933, Immanuel Lutheran School, Soldier Township, from 1933-1935, and graduated from Mapleton High School with the class of 1940.
On June 16, 1946, Evelyn was united in marriage to Donald Teut at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa. Evelyn loved her family. She and Donald enjoyed taking their grandchildren on trips with them. They traveled across a major portion of the U.S. in their RV and also would go camping and fishing locally and in Minnesota. The couple was able to take a very memorable trip to Hawaii. Being a farm wife in her earlier years, Evelyn kept busy cooking and baking, gardening and canning, sewing, knitting, and crocheting. She crocheted something for every one of her grandchildren. Other pastime activities Evelyn enjoyed included bowling and playing cards with friends. She and Donald were members of several card clubs over the years. She also had a beautiful collection of glassware.
Evelyn was devoted to her church and was originally a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Soldier Township, Charter Oak, a charter member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Ricketts, Iowa and then Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. She was very active in the LWML, holding several offices, and taught Sunday School for many years.
