Gilbert Zeimen

Gilbert Nicholas Zeimen was born October 24, 1923, at Mapleton, Iowa, the son of Nicholas and Sarah Zeimen. He passed away Sunday, October 1, 2017, at his home in Denison, Iowa, at the age of ninety-three.
Gilbert received his education in the schools near his home and began farming when he was six years old and continued farming when he moved to Denison in 1979 by helping on the farm until 1993. He was united in marriage to Irma Loew August 20, 1946 and she passed away in 1992. He then married Virginia Slice Hansel in 1994 and she passed away in 2000.
Besides his family, farming was his life and he especially loved the cattle. The company of his grandchildren and hugging family and friends, especially the babies, brought him great pleasure. In his leisure time, Gilbert enjoyed bowling – being on several leagues, traveling to Las Vegas, playing cards, listening to country and bluegrass music, planting flowers in the spring and mowing the lawn. He also enjoyed cooking after his second wife died. He particularly enjoyed long walks and at age 91 walked from his home to Yellow Smoke Park on the trail and back. He was a big fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and watching Hee Haw and westerns. Gilbert was very generous and giving, kind and caring and was a loving father and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents; both wives; one stepson, Randy; three sisters, Sister Marcy, Lucille and Rita; and one brother, Maurice. Survivors include: four sons, Ronald and wife, Mary, Gary and wife, Shirley, Irvin and wife, Debbie, and Paul and wife, Bobbie; two daughters, Jean and husband, Michael, and Ann and husband, Larry; two stepchildren, Lore and husband, Lee, and Rick; 24 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; three brothers, Ray and wife, Bev, Joseph and wife, Jan and Robert; three sisters, Sister Maria, Ann and husband, Dewey, and Mary; other relatives and friends.
