Gladys Petersen

Gladys Irene Petersen was born July 28, 1925, the daughter of Edward and Hilda Gottsch Weller. She passed away Monday, August 19, 2013, at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa, at the age of 88.
Gladys was born in Buck Grove, Iowa. She received her education in rural school near her home. Gladys was baptized October 29, 1944, and confirmed November 5, 1944, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. After she finished her education Gladys was employed as a housekeeper for Jesse Jaacks. She was united in marriage to Carl Petersen on February 16, 1947, and to this union was born six children.
Gladys enjoyed taking care of her family and home. She especially enjoyed the time she got to spend with her grandchildren. Gladys kept busy sewing, cooking and baking. She had a big vegetable and flower garden and would pot the plants from her garden. In 1962 Gladys joined Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig and was a member of the Ladies Aid.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl in 2006; one granddaughter, Julie Malm; one sister, Fern Mathies; and three brothers, Glenn, Lowell, and Loren Weller. Survivors include six children: Carlene Huerta and her husband, Larry of Fox River Grove, Illinois; Carole Wynn and her husband, Vernon of Salix, Iowa; Jean Stuckey and her husband, Ed of Fort Payne, Alabama; Wayne Petersen of Livermore, Iowa; Willis Petersen of Schleswig, Iowa; and Wesley Petersen and his wife, Lisa of Lawton, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, Gordon Weller of Westside, Iowa; one sister, Cleo Bohm of Estherville, Iowa; and two sisters-in-law, Helen Weller of Manning, Iowa; and Elnora Petersen of Denison, Iowa; other relatives and friends.
