Jan Morman

Janice Lea Morman was born August 30, 1937, the daughter of Wilbur and Lena Christensen Schwieso. She passed away Thursday, January 24, 2013, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, at the age of 75.
Jan was born in Carroll, Iowa. She attended the Manilla Community Schools graduating with the class of 1955. Jan was baptized in the Lutheran faith in 1937 and confirmed in 2000. On January 29, 1956, Jan was united in marriage to Paul Karr at Trinity Lutheran in Manilla, Iowa, and to this union was born two daughters. The couple were charter members of King of Kings Lutheran Church in Omaha, Nebraska.
On December 6, 1975, she was married to Dr. Howard Morman in Yankton, South Dakota. Winters in Arizona were a favorite spot for them as Jan delighted in the sunshine.
Jan was a very friendly and active lady that liked to be on the go. She enjoyed dancing, socializing and playing Scat with family and friends, crocheting, and following her grandchildrens activities, and was especially fond of animals. In her younger years, she enjoyed roller skating, playing basketball for Manilla High School, and was a member of the Sweet Adelines. Jan loved her job working for the National Park Service at Mt. Rushmore as a dorm mother for the employees for 12 years. Once you made friends with Jan, it was a true and devoted friendship forever. Jan was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard; and one sister-in-law, Lucy Schwieso. Survivors include two daughters, Becky Kern and her husband, Gary of Kalispell, Montana; and Lori Karr of St. Petersburg, Florida; two grandchildren, Faith and Emily Kern; two brothers, Roger Schwieso, and his wife, Connie of Harlan, Iowa; Dennie Schwieso of Des Moines, Iowa; one sister, Kathy Nightingale of Kalispell, Montana; dear friend, Lyle Frazier of Denison; other relatives and friends.
