Jerry Mcgee

August 18, 1937 — December 24, 2013

Gerald Lee McGee was born August 18, 1937, the son of LuVerne and Dorothy Morgan McGee. He passed away at his home in Ricketts, Iowa, on Tuesday, December 24, 2013, at the age of 76.
Jerry was born in Sioux City, Iowa. After finishing his education Jerry worked jobs in the area and at age 21 he began driving truck over the road. He was an owner-operator and also worked for commercial truck companies such as National Carriers, Jerry J. Kobs, Gloucester Dispatch and MidContinent through his career. In 2009 he retired from trucking at the age of 72. Jerry was very proud of the many safety awards he had received through his 50 years of driving.
On January 31, 1969, Jerry was united in marriage to Connie Rice in Dakota City, Nebraska. Jerry's goal was to reach their 45th wedding anniversary, but his lung cancer prevented that. To this union was born two children.
Jerry enjoyed spending time with his family and socializing with friends at Ampride over a cup of coffee. The family had memorable trips to Yellowstone and The Black Hills. Another favorite trip was this past summer to New York where Jerry took his last road trip east with Connie to pick up a Hummer for his friend Cecil Blum. When Jerry had time to relax he enjoyed watching John Wayne movies and other westerns on television. He also enjoyed waiting for the grandkids to visit so he could give them a hard time.
Jerry had a grumpy exterior, but once you got to know him, he had a heart of gold. His sense of humor was such that you wouldn't quite know what he would say to you, which he never lost throughout his illness.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Connie of Ricketts; two children: Lori Stone of Denison, Iowa; and Jeffrey McGee and his wife, Cindy of Ricketts; four grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; brother-in-law, Gary Rice and his wife, Peggy of St. Charles, Missouri; other relatives and friends.
