Leatrice Joyce Blunk was born July 3, 1924, the daughter of Theodore Hans and Alma Marie Aldag. She passed away Thursday, November 1, 2018, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, at the age of ninety-four.
Joyce was born on a farm north of Schleswig in Hayes Township, Ida County, Iowa. She was baptized in Christ August 18, 1924, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa, and confirmed her faith at that same church on April 10, 1938. Joyce completed her high school education in Denison and graduated from Denison High School with the class of 1941. She continued her education at a business school in Omaha, Nebraska, and after completion of business school, Joyce was employed at Quaker Petroleum Company in Omaha, Nebraska.
On November 25, 1942, Joyce was united in marriage to Donald Otto Blunk in Omaha and they were privileged to celebrate sixty-six years of marriage before Donald’s death in 2008. The couple lived and farmed south of Kiron, Iowa, and was blessed with the birth of seven sons. They retired from farming in 1995 and moved into Kiron. Joyce continued to live in Kiron after Donald’s death until 2013 when she moved to Silveridge in Denison, Iowa, where she still resided, enjoying both the residents and the staff.
Joyce was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, who loved spending time with her family whom she was devoted to, as well as to her church. She was a missionary who did her work quietly and almost unnoticed. She enjoyed making many quilts, playing cards and her morning walks while practicing bible verses and hymns. During her childhood, she was known as “Joyful Joyce” and she remained joyful throughout her lifetime.
