Lillian Haase

November 20, 1918 — August 31, 2013

Lillian Sophie Anna Haase was born November 20, 1918, the daughter of Arthur and Margaret Lange Sahl. She died at the Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, Saturday, August 31, 2013, at the age of 94.
Lillian grew up on the family farm near Denison and received her education in a rural school near her home. She was baptized in Christ on April 4, 1919, and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith on April 9, 1933, at Zion Lutheran Church by Rev. Freese. After completing her education, she was a care giver and housekeeper for various families in the area.
December 22, 1946, Lillian was united in marriage to Vernon Haase at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison by Rev. C.W. Schmidt. The couple made their home on a farm near Denison and was blessed with the birth of two daughters. She was a loving wife and mother who devoted her life to her Lord and Savior and to her family. She was a homemaker of great dignity and love. She helped her husband on the farm, milking cows and raising chickens. She worked in her gardens, both flowers and vegetables, and canned much of her proceeds. She enjoyed reading, and viewed life simply. She mothered her daughters with love and caring and was not just the best mother in the world to her daughters, but a best friend as well! She enjoyed watching the Food Channel and documenting recipes. Lillian also enjoyed watching medical shows such as Dr. Oz, and kept up on world affairs as she watched CNN. She had a positive outlook on life and made friends easily, establishing wonderful relationships throughout her life, especially more recently, since moving to the Kennybrook Village in Grimes.
Lillian was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, in 2006; one brother, Leslie Sahl in 2008; a sister, Mildred Ronner; two sisters-in-law, Violet Boeck and Lavern Haase; and two brothers-in-law, Virgil Boeck and Edmund Haase. Survivors include two daughters, Cheryl Corbett and her husband, Jerry of Grimes, Iowa; and Cindy Seastrom and her husband, Gary of Coon Rapids, Iowa; two grandchildren, Tyler Haase and his wife, Dawn of West Des Moines; and Gayle McMillen and her husband, Kip of Johnston, Iowa; and four great-grandchildren, Zach and Katie McMillen of Johnston and Annemarie and Elizabeth McCoy of West Des Moines, Iowa; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
