Magdalene Christiansen

June 7, 1917 — February 19, 2013

Magdalene (Mag) Josephine Christiansen was born at Denison, Iowa, on June 7, 1917, the daughter of Alfred and Elizabeth Jaacks Meggers. She passed away Tuesday, February 19, 2013, at the Denison Care Center in Denison, Iowa, at the age of 95.
Mag was baptized in the Christian faith at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa, on May 7, 1918 by Rev. Frese. She attended country school in Goodrich and also East Boyer Township. After leaving the farm she attended the Zion Lutheran School and was also confirmed in the class of 1931. After schooling, she was employed at various homes and during the war she worked at the Egg Drying Plant in Denison.
On February 26, 1943, Mag was united in marriage to Eddie Christiansen at the First Lutheran Parsonage in Omaha, Nebraska. To this union was born one daughter, LuAnn. Mag and Eddie farmed west of Dow City for 29 years until retiring in 1972 and moving into Dow City. She was employed at Lucilles Caf for six years.
Eddie passed away in 1989 and Mag continued to make her home in Dow City. She was very active in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, a member of the Ladies Aid, holding several of the offices, taught Sunday School, served on the Altar Guild, and helped with Vacation Bible School. Mag enjoyed her grandchildren very much and also loved to garden. She entered the Denison Care Center on April 28, 2008.
Mag was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Eddie; four brothers: Emil, Edward, Marvin, and Leonard; and four sisters: Minnie Frank, Edna Igou, Irene Jepsen, and Esther Namanny. She is survived by her daughter, LuAnn Volkert and her husband, Gary of Denison; three granddaughters: Natasha Lynn Fink and her husband, Robert of Deloit; Taylor Leigh and Jordan Elizabeth Volkert of Denison; three great-grandchildren: Morgan, Alison, and Owen Fink; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
