Ocario Hernandez

October 20, 1955 — February 9, 2019

Ocario Hernandez was born in Michoacan, Mexico, October 20, 1955, the son of Jesus Hernandez and Gregoria Alejandre. He passed away Saturday, February 9, 2019, at the age of sixty-three as the result of an automobile accident between Denison and Charter Oak, Iowa.
Ocario received his education in Mexico and came to the United States when he was 17 years old. He was employed at a meat locker in Los Angeles, California until 2003 when he came to Crawford County, Iowa. He first made his home in Schleswig, then Denison and in 2009, he purchased a home in Ricketts, Iowa, which was his comfort zone. Ocario was so proud of his house and being a home owner. After arriving in Crawford County, he began working at Smithfield in Denison and remained there until his death. He also wanted his children to come and work at Smithfield as well.
He was united in marriage to Juana and the couple was blessed with three children: Ricardo, Belen and Blanca Hernandez He later married Zenaida Quiroz and they were the parents of five children: Rosilandy, Cynthia, Daniel, Aurora and Angelica Hernandez. Ocario was presently married to Veronica Espino Camacho.
In 2010, Ocario became a United States citizen which he took great pride in. He loved cooking and prepared food for baptisms, weddings and other special events. He enjoyed socializing and having people come to visit and eat his food, the hotter the better, and he particularly enjoyed receiving compliments on his cooking. He would spend the entire summer planning for event cooking which often included Carnitas which is deep fried pork. Ocario had a lot of energy and kept busy with a garden where he raised habaneros, which are chili peppers. He was a very cautious driver and conditioned his family to be cautious drivers. Ocario loved playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were very special to him and watching rodeo and bull riding. He was a very formal person who was always well dressed and clean shaven.
Ocario is survived by his wife, Veronica; eight children: Ricardo, Belen, Blanca, Rosilandy and her husband, Alfredo, Cynthia and her husband, Jesse, Daniel and his wife, Tasha, Aurora, and Angelica; nineteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nine siblings: Cruz, Estela, Luis, Lauriano and his wife, Salud, Guadalupe, Zeferino, Uvaldina, Consuelo, and Juan; other relatives and friends.
