Wesley Wight

March 18, 1947 — January 4, 2013

Wesley Emerson Wight was the first child of Emerson and Elvera Wight, born Friday, March 18, 1947, and passed away of natural causes at his home in Denison, Iowa, on Friday, January 4, 2013, at the age of 65. Wes earned a bachelors degree in Physics at Iowa State University after graduating from Denison High School. He taught school in Manilla for a while before turning his interests to the family businesses started by his father and mother, Wight Welding Works and Wight Rentals in Denison. Wes, being well spoken with a highly developed wit and intellect, was a pleasure to visit. Often times his unique perspective, independence, and ways of viewing life were humorous. Wes was proud of never chasing a dollar. Frugal, self-reliant, paying his own way in life, never taking a government dime, made him happy. Being active and healthy to the end, Wes enjoyed outdoor activities, especially morel mushroom hunting. His homegrown horseradish was well-known. Two weeks ago, Wes was visiting with a life-long friend, speaking about successfully searching newly exposed creek beds for fossils, etc. He also enjoyed chasing tornadoes when the timing was right. Wes was a free spirit who shunned normalcy and went out of his way to avoid such. The traveling Wesley had adventures likened to the movies, like that trip to Hawaii or road trips in his VW microbus. Wes was a private, quiet man all his life. His many close friends have said he was a true friend. He spent his life learning and building a bank of knowledge and facts. He was loving, tender, and caring. Wes was a cats best friend. Wes was content in life.
Wes was the last member of his immediate family, preceded by his father, mother, and younger brother, Steven. He is survived in love by his sister-in-law, Connie of Denison; niece Amanda (son. Elijah) and finace', Michael Conway of Council Bluffs; and nephews Jeremy and wife, Laura of Muscatine; and Erik and wife, Heather (children, Aislinn, Abigail, Shae, Tiernan, Kylee, and Amira) of Denison; two aunts, Leona Wight of Denison and Genevive Wight of Warren, Michigan; other relatives and friends.
