Alma Leona Fritz was born February 3, 1934, in Iowa, the daughter of John and Florence Mathies. She passed away Thursday, July 16, 2020, at Josie Harper Hospice House in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of eighty-six.
Alma received her education by attending various schools in the places where her family lived. She then was needed to help at home, so continued her education at a later time and received her GED. Alma was united in marriage to Donald Fritz on February 4, 1952, at the Zion Lutheran Parsonage in Denison by Rev. C.W. Schmidt. The couple made their home in Deloit and was blessed with the birth of three sons.
Collecting salt and pepper shakers was Alma’s favorite hobby. She also enjoyed doing crafts, playing Bingo and watching the game show network with closed captioning. Alma adored her “babies” known as her cats Tiger and Tinkerbell and held a special place in her heart for them. Alma and Donald enjoyed traveling to Kentucky, West Virginia and several of the western states, including California. Don retired at the age of 60 and he and Alma spent their weekends at their trailer in Okoboji, where they enjoyed fishing. For five years, they would spend the week at Okoboji and then return to Deloit on the weekends.
Alma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald Fritz in 2014; an infant son, Raymond Fritz; one brother, Jack Mathies and his wife, Fern; two brothers-in-law, Wilbert Segebart and Alvin Shrimpton. Survivors include: two sons, Mike and Dave; two granddaughters, Emily and her husband, Josh, and Erin; one brother, Lloyd and his wife, Deb; two sisters, Mary Ann and Viola; other relatives and friends.
