Arlis Ann Clausen Neddermeyer was born November 19, 1943, to Paul and Irene (Boehm) Clausen of Schleswig, Iowa. She was educated in Morgan Township #5 and graduated with the Class of 1961 from Schleswig High School. She attended the University of South Dakota as a history major. Arlis passed away peacefully in her home on January 18, 2023, at the age of 79.
The ultimate farm girl, Arlis married Edward Neddermeyer on December 7, 1963, beginning a life-long, side-by-side farming partnership. She ran the picker and chopper exclusively for many years, could unload 400 hay bales in a day, and helped raise livestock.
Arlis had a broad view and cared for everyone. She was devoted to serving her community, shown in her volunteer work as a Sunday School teacher, 4-H leader, Schleswig Enterprise board member and Morgan Cemetery secretary/treasurer, where her institutional knowledge of Schleswig family trees was of valuable service.
Her love of the garden was reflected in Arlis's many flower beds, freshly mowed lawns, and canned produce. She loved puzzles and games, especially presiding over family March Madness brackets each year. In recent years she so enjoyed playing Bridge with her Schleswig clubs. Most of all, in her role as Mom, Grammy, and Great Grammy, Arlis cherished her family and will be deeply missed.
Arlis is preceded in death by her parents Paul and Irene Clausen, parents-in-law Ervin and Helma Neddermeyer, sister-in-law Frances Clausen, and brother-in-law Gailen Neddermeyer. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Edward Neddermeyer of Schleswig; daughter Andrea (Douglas) Berka of Kansas City, MO, daughter Melissa (Tim) Keeney of Zionsville, IN, son Colin (Kelli Rupert) Neddermeyer of Schleswig; granddaughter Lauren (Jody) Thorson of Kansas City, MO, grandsons Charles (Natalie) Berka of Tulsa, OK, Mitchell Keeney of Russia, OH, and Benjamin Keeney of Fishers, IN; great-grandchildren Clark Thorson, Caroline Thorson, and Jack Berka; brother Delbert Clausen of Schleswig; other family members and friends.
