Beverly received her education in schools near her home and graduated from Ainsworth Consolidated School in Ainsworth, Iowa, with the Class of 1945. She continued her college education, received her associate of arts degree from Iowa Western Community College at Council Bluffs, Iowa, and received her bachelor of arts degree in psychology and sociology from Buena Vista College at the Council Bluffs center at the age of sixty.
On June 18, 1946, Beverly was united in marriage to Robert Custer. They were blessed with the birth of four children: Raberta, Gayle, Richard and Craig.
