Bob Wiebers

May 8, 1939 — June 30, 2026

Robert “Bob” Lee Wiebers was born on May 8, 1939, in Carroll, Iowa, the son of Leroy and Margaret (Bornhoft) Wiebers. He was baptized at St. John’s Evangelical Reformed Church in Westside, where he remained a lifelong member. Today, the church stands as the United Church of Westside. Bob received his education in Westside and was a member of the first graduating class of AR-WE-VA High School in 1957. He continued his education at South Dakota State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Business with the Class of 1962.

On September 9, 1961, Bob was united in marriage to Karen Kay Carstens at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. They were blessed with two sons, Gregory and Ryan. During their first year of marriage, they made their home in Brookings, South Dakota, while Bob completed his education. They later lived in Waterloo, Iowa, before relocating to Downers Grove, Illinois. In 1975, the family moved to Hudson, followed by Kansas City in 1986. From 1990 to 1992, they resided in Council Bluffs before settling in Parkville, Missouri, where Bob continued to live for several years following Karen’s passing. In 2017, he returned to his hometown of Westside.

Throughout his career, Bob worked as an executive salesman in the meat industry. He began with Rath Packing Company and later worked for Farmland Foods, ConAgra, and Smithfield Foods before retiring in 2006. Known by his colleagues as the "Bacon Man," Bob was widely respected as a mentor in the industry and was instrumental in driving the growth of the bacon category and the industry as a whole through his commitment to quality. In addition to his career, Bob was a licensed private pilot and enjoyed flying for many years.

Bob was a proud member of the Elks Club and had a lifelong passion for the game of Bridge. Whether playing in person or online, he became highly ranked within the Bridge community. He also looked forward to his biannual fishing trips to Canada, where he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, making memories that would last a lifetime.
