Carla Kay Gosch was born on October 12, 1960, in Carroll, Iowa, to Ronald and Marvel (Ransom) Bruning. She attended Carroll Public High School. On March 11, 1978, Carla married Craig Tornow in Carroll, Iowa. Together, they were blessed with two children, Tina and Timothy. Carla stayed home to raise her children, wholeheartedly dedicating herself to creating a warm and nurturing home. She lovingly prepared home-cooked meals each day, kept the house tidy and welcoming, and made sure her children always had clean clothes and a safe space to grow. She helped with school projects, oversaw homework at the kitchen table, and was always ready with encouragement and guidance. The family lived in Carroll for a time before moving to Denison a few years later. Though Carla and Craig eventually parted ways, they reunited and rediscovered their love for each other after 26 years.
Carla also worked at Job Corps and Casey’s during her life. She enjoyed playing cards and working on puzzles. Family meant everything to Carla, she devoted much of her time to caring for her parents during their illnesses and took great joy in creating lasting memories with her loved ones. She especially enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren and supporting them in their activities. Her cooking, particularly her chili, will be deeply missed by her grandchildren.
Carla passed away on May 10, 2025, at the Immanuel Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 64 years, six months and 28 days. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Carla is survived by her partner, Craig Tornow of Denison; two children: Tina (Nate) Thompson of Denison and Tim Tornow of Denison; grandchildren: Dylan Tornow, Tristan Linn, Jordyn Linn and Owen Thompson; sister, Pam Kendrick of Carroll; and many other family members and friends.
