Cathy Lynn Ray was born November 24, 1957, in Denison, Iowa, the daughter of Wilbert and Julia Feddersen Prussing. She passed away Sunday, August 27, 2017, at her home in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of fifty-nine.
Cathy was baptized in Christ in January of 1958 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa, by Rev. F.A. Wiese and was later confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak March 26, 1972. She attended the Charter Oak Community Schools and graduated from Charter Oak-Ute High School with the Class of 1976. She was employed at Dubuque Packing for several years before she was injured. In 1979, she was united in marriage to Steve Ray, which union ended in divorce in 1995. She was subsequently married to Janet Smith February 6, 2015.
She loved football, especially watching the Miami Dolphins, and enjoyed Super Bowl parties. Cathy enjoyed hiking in the mountains, animals, watching movies, singing to her daughter, listening to rock and country music, and helping others. Her favorite television series were: Big Bang, American Gladiators, The Wall, The Funderdome and Sons of Anarchy. She was not particularly a good cook, so to show her sense of humor when attending family reunions, she brought potato chips and paper plates.
Cathy was preceded in death by her parents; her spouse Janet Smith on May 5, 2017; one granddaughter, Arionna in 2001; and one sister, Darla Neubauer. Survivors include: her daughter, Tiffany Colbert and her husband, Tre of Omaha, Nebraska; six grandchildren: Jasmine, Brooklynn, Zachary, Zora and Maria; one step-daughter, Amanda Smith of Denver, Colorado; two brothers, Roger Prussing and his wife, Linda of Ida Grove, Iowa; and Doug Prussing and his wife, Kelli of Denison, Iowa; three sisters: Rhonda Lopez and her husband, Geno of Denison, Iowa; Cheryl Hardy and her husband, Dennis of Woodbine, Iowa; and Lana Barnum and her husband, Harry of Lenox, Iowa; other relatives and friends.
