Colleen Kay Wessel

January 5, 1955 — November 23, 2025

Colleen Kay Wessel was born on January 5, 1955, to Delmar and Gladys (Johannsen) Wessel in Denison, Iowa. Co was born and raised in Denison. She was baptized and later confirmed her faith at Zion Lutheran Church, where she remained a lifelong member. She received her education from Denison High School, graduating with the class of 1973, and continued her studies at C.E. School of Commerce in Omaha. She started working at Bob Mathers Oldsmobile, Baak Trucking and the Denison Livestock Auction.

Co dedicated her life’s work to helping those in need of a voice. She held many managerial positions at WESCO Industries for more than 34 years, where she was known as a passionate advocate for everyone she served. Her commitment and leadership made a lasting and positive impact on the organization and the lives within it.

Co also gave generously of her time to her community. She served as sheep superintendent of the Crawford County Fair for many years, remained active in local veteran affairs, and never missed an opportunity to stay connected with her high school classmates, often organizing reunions and get-togethers. She loved being around people and cherished every relationship she made.

Family was one of Co’s greatest joys. She loved her family dearly and was proud to be “Aunt Co.” She went to as many events as she could for her nieces and nephews, always cheering them on. She was the family historian, devoted to keeping family connections strong. She was known for going over the top with her cooking and baking for gatherings, always sending loved ones home with meals. She was just a phone call away when someone needed mints made for an event. Friday nights were often spent in Boyer for wings with her group of friends. She loved the casino, playing BINGO, and checking out Facebook, one of her favorite pastimes.

She was a proud and devoted mother to Caitlin Remington and treasured all of Caitlin’s accomplishments. She found immense joy in Caitlin’s family, her marriage to Josh, and grandsons Sam and Isaiah, who were a constant source of pride and happiness. She also found great companionship in her partner, Bob.

Colleen passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 23, 2025, in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 70 years, ten months, and 18 days. She continued to give through the generosity of donation with Live On Nebraska. She was preceded in death by her parents, Delmar and Gladys Wessel; brothers, Dale Wessel and Duane Wessel; and brother-in-law, Jim Bruening.

She is survived by her daughter, Caitlin (Josh) Remington of Bondurant; her grandchildren, Samuel and Isaiah Remington; and her partner, Robert “Bob” Brown; siblings: Doug (Rhonda) Wessel of Denison, Fay Bruening of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Darwin Wessel of Boyer, Darren (Kelly) Wessel of Schleswig, Katie (Brett) Gehlsen of Denison; sisters-in-law: Rhonda (Dutch) Goslar of Lake View and Kristi Wessel of Denison. Colleen was a beloved aunt, great-aunt, cousin, and friend to a large extended family. She also leaves behind a legacy of friendship and empowerment with those she has positively impacted during her time at WESCO.
