Dale Walter Kruthoff was born November 26, 1934, the son of Walter and Marie Kruthoff. He died February 3, 2017, at the age of 82. He passed away in his birthplace home on the family’s Arion farm.
Dale was a life-time member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. He was baptized in Christ on March 17, 1935, and later confirmed April 10, 1949. Raised in Crawford County, he received his early education in the country schools before graduating from Denison High School with the class of 1952. Following graduation, Dale helped survey routes for future high-lines in South Dakota, Nebraska and Iowa, before following his dream of farming.
On December 26, 1954, Dale was united in marriage to Irene Schmidt at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Dale was confirmed and married by his father-in-law, Pastor C.W. Schmidt. The couple made their home in Denison and in 1957 moved to the farm near Arion. They were blessed with the birth of five children.
Throughout his life, Dale was active in various church organizations. He was a charter member of the Iowa Cattleman’s Association. Dale enjoyed participating in bowling leagues, traveling, fishing and playing cards. He was an avid collector of John Deere toy tractors and a daily member of the Denison Seed House coffee club. He was also a loyal listener of the Polka Party. After his wife passed away, Dale developed his culinary skills, his specialties being potato soup and sugar cookies.
Dale was preceded in death by his wife, Irene and his parents. Survivors include: three daughters, Karen (Jeff) , Cynthia, and Kristine; two sons, Carl,and Mark (Paula); seven grandchildren, Sarah, Ashlee (Travis), Allie, Oleysa, Dennis, Heidi (Brian), and Josh; one brother, David (Georgia); sister-in-law, Barbara (Earl); three nephews and five nieces; five great-grandchildren with two on the way.
