David Alan Duncan was born on December 5, 1935, in Denison, Iowa, the son of David and Ruby (Hass) Duncan. He attended Denison schools and graduated with the Class of 1954. Following graduation, David enlisted in the United States Army and served his country until receiving his honorable discharge.
After returning home, David began working at the Denison liquor store before starting a long career with the United States Postal Service, where he remained until his well-earned retirement. An avid coin collector, he was highly knowledgeable and enjoyed sharing his passion with others. David loved the outdoors and spent many hours hunting, fishing, and camping. He was an animal lover of all kinds, with a special place in his heart for dogs. He also enjoyed following Iowa sports and discussing politics.
David passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at Gracewell in Denison at the age of 90 years, six months and 19 days. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Chuck and Keith Duncan; brother-in-law: Kenneth Lueck; sister-in-law, Roxana Duncan; niece: Amy Duncan; and two nephews: Chuck and Dan Lueck.
David is survived by his sister, Barbara Lueck; significant other, Marsha Kracht; sister-in-law: Sharon Duncan; and nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
His graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 29, 2026, at the Oakland Cemetery in Denison. Memorials may be directed to Happy Cats or the Denison Pound.
