David Hartwig

David Richard Hartwig was born on April 25, 1953, the son of Harold and Rita (McHugh) Hartwig in Dunlap, Iowa. He received his education in the Dunlap Community Schools and graduated with the Class of 1973.

On May 8, 1976, David was united in marriage to Teresa Shives at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison. Together they were blessed with three sons, Steven, Shannon, and Sheldon, and made their home in Denison. David dedicated more than 40 years of service to Farmland Foods before retiring.

David found some of his greatest enjoyment outdoors. He loved hunting, fishing, working in the yard, and tending to his garden. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to his sons and took great pride in supporting them whenever he could. Above all, David treasured the time he spent with his ten grandchildren. They brought him immense joy, and some of his happiest moments were those shared with them.

David passed away on Monday, July 6, 2026, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison at the age of 73 years, two months and 11 days. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Bob Hartwig and Billy Hartwig.

David is survived by his wife of 50 years, Teresa Hartwig of Denison; three sons: Steven (Kendra) Hartwig, Shannon Hartwig, Sheldon (Mandy) Hartwig all of Denison; ten grandchildren: Skyler, Lexi, Trae, Owen, Keaten, Ali, Keagan, Jace, Keira and Kynny; sisters: Rose Ann (Denny) Gross of Mount Vernon and Kim Hartwig of Dunlap; many nieces and nephews; and other family members and friends.

His Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., with visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 13, 2026, at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. The family will direct memorials.
