Delores Maxine Greene

July 28, 1931 — April 19, 2023

Joining 4 older brothers, Delores Maxine was born to Arno and Hattie Steffen on July 28, 1931. The family lived on a farm south of Charter Oak. She received the gifts of baptism on June 12, 1932.

Delores attended Mullen Country School #7 for her elementary education. After completing high school in Charter Oak, she graduated with the rest of the '49er's.

On January 17, 1954 Delores and Charles Erwin Greene were united in marriage at the United Methodist Church in Charter Oak. Delores continued to work at the Charter Oak IPS office for a few years. Charles and Delores lived on a couple of farms south of Charter Oak, and in 1964 they purchased a farm one mile east of Ricketts.

Being a very dedicated and hard-working farm wife, Delores enjoyed cooking and baking, gardening, and sewing. Trying new recipes and sharing them with other ladies was a much-enjoyed hobby. Making quilts was another of her interests. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church Hanover Township. She was involved in LWML, served as a Sunday School teacher, and she was a member of the congregation's Altar Guild. During its years, Delores was greatly involved in the Ric-Ettes organization. Delores had many fond memories of working with these ladies at the Ricketts Steam and Antique Show. She treasured the years she was able to attend the Triple Parish morning Bible study at the Ricketts Community Building.

Delores loved her family dearly, and she was delighted to hear of their many activities. Each of them was included in her prayers as she prayed God's blessings upon their lives.

After an injury from a fall in 2015, Delores decided moving to Silveridge Assisted Living in Denison would be a wise choice. Realizing the decline of some of her capabilities in the aging process made Delores only more grateful that "things were as good as they were for as long as they were." Her contentment and courage to accept her limitations were a model to her family as she did her best. She knew that her life was in God's Hands, and that brought her peace. "We are fearfully and wonderfully made," (Psalm 139:14) was the verse that became a theme by which she lived her elderly years. Many hymns also offered her peace and affirmed her faith.

In November 2020, Delores moved to Providence Place Assisted Living in Fremont, NE as she was then nearer her daughter and family. With its memory care program, this facility was a blessing to Delores. She continued to rely on the Lord for peace midst the frustrations of aging. She realized her limitations and expressed thanksgiving for the facility and its staff.

Delores passed away peacefully, surrounded by her children on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at Providence Place Assisted Living in Fremont, NE, attaining the age of 91 years. Preceding her in death were her parents; one infant sister, Joyce Elaine; brothers: Vic, Earl, Carroll, and Charles Steffen; husband, Charles; son, Kevin Charles; and infant granddaughter, Laura Richelle Dunklau.

She is survived by her daughter in-law, Rachel Greene of Denison, IA; daughter, Joyce (Tim) Dunklau of Arlington, NE; son, Rich (Sheryl) Greene of Wildwood, MO; grandchildren: Jered, Noah, Hannah, Kelly, Spencer, Brianna, and Jacob; and 5 great-grandchildren.
