Delores Ann Meyer

February 19, 1936 — March 31, 2023

Delores Ann (Jepsen) Meyer was born on February 19, 1936, to Fred W. and Elizabeth (Klink) Jepsen on her grandparents' farm in east Boyer Township and she was raised south of Charter Oak, Iowa. She attended country school until 7th grade, and then attended Zion Lutheran School in Denison for 8th grade. She attended Charter Oak High School and graduated with the class of 1954. It was no secret that Delores was a tall girl and the high school girls' basketball coach came out to her parents' home to recruit her to play post guard. The family lived eight miles out of town and it wasn't always easy to get to and from. The coach offered for her to stay with their family when the weather wasn't cooperating. Delores played in the state championship for three years of high school and was awarded 2nd Team All State.

Delores spent time working at Neddermeyer Grocery Store, Council Oak for six years, and then Johnson's Drug for two years. Delores married Robert Meyer on September 9, 1962, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. The couple made their home on the family farm south of Denison. Shortly after moving to the farm, the couple put in hard work building a new home themselves. Delores and Bob were blessed with two children, Scott and Lisa. The couple truly enjoyed their lives together. They traveled all 50 states as well as a large trip to Europe where they were able to visit many countries. Whenever there was an opportunity to dance, they took it. They were members of the circle and swing square dance club and Delores made all of their outfits. The couple also loved polka and ballroom dancing.

Delores spent many years as the flower superintendent for the Crawford County Fair. Some local church members and Delores started the Zion food booth and worked very hard for it to become successful, which it still is to this day. Every year Delores kept a large garden and she canned and froze the vegetables to be used during the winter months. She also had a large flower garden which she enjoyed very much. She raised over 200 broiler chickens and sold them every year. Delores was a very active member of Zion Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School as well as sang in the choir for over 60 years and was a member of the Evening Guild.

Delores passed away on March 31, 2023, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison at the age of 87 years, one month and 12 days.

Delores was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert "Bob" Meyer in 2021; brother, Kenneth Jepsen; sister-in-law, Becky Jepsen; brother-in-law, Fred Hulsebus; and niece, Jill Poggensee.
