Diane Kaye (Hanson) Murphy was born April 27, 1945 in Onawa, Iowa, the daughter of Norman and Vivian (Corey) Hanson. She graduated from Dunlap High School with the Class of 1963. Following high school, she attended Dana College, and received her Master's Degree in Education. She was employed at Denison Community Schools for many years as a special ed teacher and was very devoted to her students.
From an early age, Diane was an animal lover. From helping her father with cattle to riding in horse shows to making sure the squirrels, birds, and any lost / feral kitties had food and shelter, she always had a special bond with all of God's creatures. She loved her indoor cats fiercely. Diane was also an avid quilter. She shared this passion with her family and friends and always had many ideas planned out for her next project. She loved Beatrix Potter, a good mystery novel, Frank Sinatra, and P. Buckley Moss paintings. She cherished her family and drew comfort from her faith in Jesus. She will be missed by family and friends from all over the world.
Diane passed away on Thursday, June 8, 2023 at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa, surrounded by her family. She was 78 years old. She was preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Vivian Hanson.
She is survived by her lifetime companion, Kieran Murphy, of Cork, Ireland; her son, Scott Schwade and his wife Jennifer; grandchildren: Josh (Shawna), Tim (Jessy), Nick (Alyssa), Luke (Jessica), Jake (Karrie), Miranda, Brandon (Mikayla), Ross (Shianne), and Lauren; great-grandchildren: Ariana, Everlynn, Peyton, Oakley, Kiley, and Dahlia; many other relatives and friends.
Per Diane's request, she has been cremated and there will be a private graveside service held in the Dow City Cemetery in early July.
