Donald Preston Jr.

Donald “Don” Wilson Preston Jr. was born on December 31, 1947, in Marshalltown, Iowa, to Donald Sr. and Norma (Glantz) Preston. He attended school in Marshalltown.

Don was united in marriage to Laura Reitenbaugh in 1965 at the Salvation Army in Marshalltown. Two children were born to this union, Bobbie and Brian. For many years, Don owned and operated Don’s Tap in State Center, a role that reflected his social nature and his enjoyment of visiting with others.

He later married Kendra Marie Menter in 1995 at their home in Marshalltown, and to this union, one daughter, Kimmy, was born. Don owned and operated a laundromat in Marshalltown for many years.

Throughout his life, Don worked a variety of jobs. He enjoyed the simple things—sharing a good cup of coffee, spending time with his grandchildren (especially trips for donuts and watching movies), and working on lawn mowers and tractors. He also loved to fish, no matter the location. Don was a simple man who truly appreciated life’s everyday moments.

Don passed away at his home in Carroll, surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at the age of 78.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald Sr. and Norma Preston; his sister, Debra Osman; his brother, Richard Preston; and his infant sister, Mary Beth Preston.

He is survived by his wife, Kendra Preston; his children, Bobbie (Quentin) Toresdahl, Brian Preston (Tracy VanZante), and Kimmy (Matt) Kennebeck; four grandchildren, Cole Preston, Kennedy Preston, Raegan Kennebeck, and Kaeson Kennebeck; two great-grandchildren, Coby Preston and Paisley Preston; his sister, Shari Harding; as well as other relatives and friends.

In accordance with Don’s wishes, he will be cremated and no services are scheduled.
