Donna Jean Giermann

November 17, 1942 — June 30, 2026

Donna Jean Giermann was born on November 17, 1942, in Audubon, Iowa, to Richard "Guy" and Anna (Dreier) Lile. She was the youngest of eight children and grew up on the family farm near Exira. Donna attended school in Exira and graduated with the Class of 1961.

Following high school, Donna worked in dental offices in Webster City and Fort Dodge before moving to Denison. It was there that she met Vernis Giermann through mutual friends at a dance. The couple was united in marriage on February 12, 1972, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Stockholm Township. They were blessed with two daughters and built a life together centered on faith, family, and farming. Around the time of her marriage, Donna became a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Stockholm Township, a congregation that would remain an important part of her life.

As their daughters grew older and began school, Donna returned to the workforce. She first worked for Dr. Baker in Denison before joining Vision Care Clinic, where she faithfully served for more than 20 years until her retirement.

Donna was a devoted and active member of St. John's Lutheran Church. Throughout the years, she served as church secretary, was a member of Ladies Aid/LWML and the church choir, taught Sunday School, and served as secretary for the local AAL/Thrivent branch, helping coordinate volunteer and community service projects.

She also dedicated many years as a 4-H leader and especially enjoyed serving as a judge at area fairs. Donna and Vernis were members of a Friday night bowling league and enjoyed playing Euchre with friends. She loved sewing, crafting, and creating ceramics. One of their favorite pastimes was wintering in Arizona, where Vernis often helped Donna in the ceramics building while she enjoyed her creative hobby.

Donna passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at Oak Pointe of Maryville, Missouri, having attained the age of 83 years, seven months, and 13 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, Guy and Anna Lile; husband, Vernis Giermann; five brothers, Richard "Dick," Walt, Vern, Dallas, and Darwin Lile; sister, Deloris Brannen; and infant sister, Delma Lile.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Karla (Todd) Roush of Maryville, Missouri, and Kristy (Cassidy) Grimm of Burlington Junction, Missouri; grandchildren, Jonathon and Leanna Roush; step-grandchildren, Claudia and Ava Grimm; sister-in-law, Norma Auen of Kiron; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
