Edna Malone

August 10, 1943 — October 11, 2026

Edna Marie Malone was born on August 10, 1943, the daughter of Bernard and Betty (Blume) Miller in Denison, Iowa. Edna received her education from Denison High School and graduated with the Class of 1961.

On August 19, 1961, Edna was united in marriage to Ivan Otto Malone in Maryville, Missouri. They were blessed with three daughters and eventually made their home in Dow City. Edna was a hardworking woman throughout her life. She owned and operated several local businesses, including the Corner Bar, East Office, Buck Town, Bootleggers, and Malone Trucking and Dozing. She also held various jobs throughout the years, including at Chain O Egg and later known as Seymour Foods, as well as cooking at CJ’s Restaurant, JC's Prime Rib and Ampride for many years. In addition, she also spent a significant part of her life farming alongside her husband. No matter how busy the day was, Edna always made sure the guys had a hot meal waiting for them, and there was always room for one more at her table.

Edna and Ivan enjoyed spending time together and were known to take spontaneous trips and jump in Ivan’s pickup to look at cattle, equipment or simply just sightseeing. She cherished these unplanned adventures and the opportunity to travel alongside her husband. Edna also enjoyed family trips to Branson, creating special memories with those she loved. In her free time, Edna enjoyed sewing, knitting, embroidering, reading, and ironing clothes. She always looked forward to playing BINGO with her sister. Above all, she loved supporting her grandchildren and could often be found cheering them on from the stands at their various activities. She also cherished spending time with her friends.

Edna passed away surrounded by family on Sunday, October 11, 2026, at Homestead Assisted Living in Denison, at the age of 83 years, two months and one day. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ivan Malone; brothers: William Miller, Charles Miller and Butch Miller; and nephew, Tony Blackman.

Edna is survived by her three daughters: Sheri (Clay) Shumate of Dow City, Ronda (Kevin) Aikman of Denison and Penni Coenen (Rich Elam) of Dow City; grandchildren: Kayla (Travis) Schulte, Curtis (Tricia) Malone, Triston Coenen (Morgan Hansen) and Kia Coenen (Tyler Irvin); great-grandchildren: Isabelle and fiancé, Brad, Wiatt, Ember, Jordalynn, Sidney, Ivan and Jace; sister, Marie Blackman of Denison; and many other family members and friends.
