Elaine Joan Nemitz

   Elaine Joan (Stehr) Nemitz was born on January 4, 1936, the daughter of John and Esther (Pithan) Stehr in Odebolt, Iowa. She was baptized and later confirmed her faith at St. John Lutheran Church in Boyer. She received her education from Odebolt High School and graduated with the class of 1954. 

    Elaine married LeRoy Otto Nemitz on September 6, 1959, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Odebolt and they were blessed with three children. The couple spent many years farming together on the family farm. She also spent time working at World Wide Meats and Walmart, where she made many friends. 

    Elaine was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. She loved playing cards, completing puzzles, and reading. She enjoyed working on the farm and caring for her cats. Elaine also enjoyed Wednesday morning coffee with friends and volunteering at church. Above all, she cherished spending time with her family.

    Elaine passed away suddenly on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison at the age of 88 years and 13 days.

    Elaine was preceded in death by her parents; husband, LeRoy Nemitz in 2010; granddaughter, Hannah Sherrill; and sister, Caroline Wulf. She is survived by her children: Roger (Brenda) Nemitz of Charter Oak, Mark (Susan) Nemitz of Dunlap, and Linda (Rev. Adrian) Sherrill of Lakewood, Colorado; 17 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers: Lester (Frieda) Stehr of Odebolt and Wayne (Nell) Stehr of Newcastle, Oklahoma; and many other relatives and friends.  

    Visitation with the family greeting friends will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 22, 2024, at the Huebner Funeral Home in Charter Oak. Her funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. Interment will follow in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery near Charter Oak. Memorials may be directed to the family.
