Glen Delano Bielfeldt was born on December 31, 1937, on the family farm in Crawford County, Iowa, to John Fredrick and Adelheid Theresa (Pautsch) Bielfeldt. He was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison on March 8, 1938, and confirmed there on April 6, 1952.
After graduating from Denison High School in 1956, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving honorably from 1956 to 1958. He continued his military service in the United States Marine Corps Reserve until 1962.
On February 9, 1964, Glen was united in marriage with the love of his life, Phyllis Neubaum. Together they were blessed with two children, Jon and Ann. His career began as an electrician with McClellan Electric in Denison. In 1974, he accepted a position with Oscar Mayer, prompting the family to relocate to Perry, Iowa. In 1989, he joined Tone's Spices in Ankeny, where he worked until his retirement in 2004.
In his free time, he enjoyed playing golf, traveling—especially on bank-sponsored trips—meeting friends for morning coffee, and tending to his flowers and tomato garden, which he took great pride in. A proud Marine, Glen was honored to receive the Quilt of Valor in 2022 in recognition of his military service. Family was at the center of his life, and he faithfully kept in touch with loved ones, never missing a family gathering. Those who knew him will remember his warm heart, his dedication to family, and his ornery smile.
Glen passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at Eden Acres in Perry, having attained the age of 88 years, six months, and four days. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 48 years, Phyllis Bielfeldt; his parents, John and Adelheid Bielfeldt; his siblings, Emil (Vernette) Bielfeldt, John (Dorothy) Bielfeldt, Bernhard Bielfeldt, Ruth (Hans) Jess, Ruby (LeRoy) Sass, and Fern (Clarence) Held; his parents-in-law, Marvin and Eleanora Neubaum; his sister-in-law, Joyce (Adrian) O'Meara; and his brother-in-law, Vernon Stockfleth.
He is lovingly remembered by his son, Jon Bielfeldt, his wife, Laura, and their son, Benton; his daughter, Ann Presler, her husband, Bob, and their daughters, Abby and Ally; his sister-in-law, Marian Stockfleth; along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family members, and many friends.
Throughout his life, he remained deeply connected to his family and treasured the relationships he shared with those around him. His legacy of kindness, loyalty, and love will continue through all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Lunch and fellowship will immediately follow the service at the church. Huebner Funeral Home in Denison is in charge of the arrangements. Interment at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter will take place at a later date.
Memorials will be directed to the Quilts of Valor Foundation – Perry Piecemakers, P.O. Box 191, Winterset, Iowa 50273.
