Gregory Miller

September 11, 1955 — October 1, 2026

His Prayer Service and Fireman's Last Call will be live streamed here.

Gregory Jay Miller was born on September 11, 1955, the son of Louis Leonard and Ella Patricia (Saggau) Miller in Denison, Iowa. He was baptized and later confirmed at First Presbyterian Church in Denison. Gregory received his education from Denison schools and graduated with the Class of 1973. Following graduation, he attended the University of South Dakota.

In June of 1982, Gregory married Joann Heller at St. Mary Our Lady of Fatima in Portsmouth. They were blessed with two children, Stephanie and Daniel. The couple later separated.

Gregory began working at an early age for his parents at McHenry-Miller Abstract, where he went on to build a career spanning more than 50 years. He was also dedicated to serving his community in many capacities. Gregory served as the Emergency Management Coordinator for Crawford County and was a volunteer firefighter for more than 30 years, including time as assistant fire chief in Denison. He also served two terms as a Denison city councilman.

Outside of work and his community involvement, Gregory enjoyed the simple things in life. He looked forward to spending his lunch breaks floating in the pool and loved being outdoors, even taking great enjoyment in mowing his lawn. He treasured time spent in Lake View with family and friends and enjoyed traveling to many places with his family and, more recently, with Daniel. Of all the places he visited, Maho Beach in St. Maarten remained his favorite. Gregory cherished his family and especially loved being near his grandchildren, Jackson and Declan.

Gregory passed away surrounded by family and friends on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at Gracewell Nursing Home in Denison, Iowa, at the age of 71 years and 20 days. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Gregory is survived by his daughter, Stephanie (Philip) Wnek of Trout Valley, Illinois; son, Daniel Miller (Joe Zerkus) of Roswell, Georgia; grandsons: Jackson and Declan; siblings: Kathy (Linn) Petersen of Toledo, Ohio and John Miller of Denison; nieces: Amy (Adam) Rosauer and Kristi (Jeff) Broders; and other family members and many friends.

Visitation with family and friends will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison.
