Helen Andersen

Helen Tereza Andersen was born February 16, 1918, the daughter of Fred and Amanda Asmus Gruhn. She passed away on Sunday, December 5, 2010, at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa, at the age of ninety-two.
Helen was born on her family farm near Botna, Iowa. She attended country school in Botna. She was united in marriage to Lenus Andersen on December 6, 1939. The couple was blessed with the birth of four children.
She was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed visiting, playing cards, dining out and spending time with her family. Baking and cooking for her family were part of her routine as a dutiful homemaker. She was a member of the United Church of Westside in Westside, Iowa.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lenus in 1996; one great-grandchild, Tyler Quandt in 2010; six sisters: Lena Janssen, Ella Steen, Alma Custer, Frieda Langbehn, Anna Mahnke and Ida Anthony; two brothers: Henry Gruhn and Ed Gruhn. Survivors include three daughters: Janet Rose and her husband, Richard of Westside; Julie Kock and her husband, Ronald of Carroll, Iowa; and Linda McCoid and her husband, Russell of Denison; one son, Lon Andersen and his wife, Mary of Des Moines, Iowa; 12 grandchildren: Barb Quandt; Pam Wilfing and her husband, Frank; Lori Eischeid and her husband, Rahn; Carla Ironside and her husband, Rick; Sheila Houston and her husband, Jeff; Lisa Greve and her husband, Tony; Jodi Pieper and her husband, Aaron; Brent McCoid and his wife, Jolie; Jason McCoid and his wife, Abby; Mindy McCoid; Christopher Andersen and his wife, Nicole; and Megan Andersen; 18 great-grandchildren; many relatives and friends.
