Henry Loren Buschmann, Jr., more affectionately known as Hank, was born on August 6, 1936, to Henry Herman, Sr. and Emma D. (Steffen) Buschmann in Ute, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ute. Hank graduated from Ute Consolidated School with the class of 1954. He served in the Iowa Army National Guard for eight years until his honorable discharge.

On October 13, 1957, Hank married Norma Preul at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ute and the couple was blessed with five children: Richard, Alan, Terry, Patty and Randy. He farmed northeast of Ute most of his life. While crop farming, he also raised various kinds of livestock including milk cows, breeding heifers, hogs, sheep, chicken, geese and even managed to have a few horses. While on the farm, you could always find one of his dogs by his side, two favorites were his black labs: Babes and Lola. He also drove the school bus for the Charter Oak Ute School district for 33 years.

In his younger years, he loved bowling, playing dart ball at church, and fishing in his spare time. Another favorite was being a 4-H leader of the Ute Eager Beavers and watching his kids show livestock at the Monona County Fair. He also cherished watching his grandchildren’s activities and cheering them on. Lately, he loved going out to his farm and fixing up lawn mowers to sell. He took great pride in being a trustee of the St. Clair Cemetery and also enjoyed going to coffee and breakfast with his many friends and having his house full of family. Hank loved his kids dearly, adored his grandchildren, but the ones who put the biggest smile on his face and sparkle in his eye were his great-grandchildren. He loved those little ones and always had a tootsie pop sucker in his pocket for them.

Hank passed away at home surrounded by his family on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at the age of 87 years, eight months and five days. Those welcoming him into heaven are his wife, Norma Buschmann; infant son, Richard Buschmann; parents; parents-in-law: Edward and Alma (Ketelsen) Preul; and two brothers-in-law, Don Kemper and Bob Preul.

Those left to cherish his memory are his four children: Alan (Lori Schroeder) Buschmann of Sac City, Terry Buschmann of Mapleton, Randy (Rahna) Buschmann of Sioux City, and Patty (Ron) Throckmorton of Carroll; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Elaine Kemper of Omaha, Nebraska; sisters-in-law: Betty (Dennis) Schmidt of Denison and Cheryl Preul of Yuma, Arizona; nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

A prayer service will be held at 3:30 p.m. and visitation with the family greeting friends will follow from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at Huebner Funeral Home in Charter Oak.
