Irene Sofie Jors was born July 1, 1923, on the Herman Boger farm in Crawford County, Iowa, to Adolph and Gerhardine Petersen. She passed away at the Clarke County Hospital emergency room in Osceola, Iowa, Sunday, December 24, 2017.
She spent her early years on a farm southeast of Dow City and attended school at Dow City to the 3rd grade. The family moved to Schleswig where she graduated in 1942. She worked for the Hahn family near Kiron following graduation.
She married John Jors on January 3, 1945, and their marriage was blessed with two children, Jerry and Judy. Irene worked for Paul and Norma Briggle in their creamery and also for Vic Schwarz at Ricketts Oil as a bookkeeper.
She has been a faithful member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Ricketts and also served as a janitor at the church for over 25 years. She also served as a Lamp Lighter and was a Ladies Aid member. She belonged to the Ric-Ettes, Jolly Club, LWML and Community Club.
Irene was a helper to a great many people during her life time. She was always ready to help the elderly in Ricketts by getting their mail, calling to make sure they were okay or stopping by to visit a shut-in. Her children and especially her grandchildren were the light of her life. Irene loved animals of all kinds. She spent a lot of time sitting on a chair in her dining room watching the birds and squirrels eat on the deck. She made her home with her son, Jerry for several years until a move to Eventide was made, due to declining health.
Becoming a widow with two young children was a difficult time for her which she met head on with courage and a strong faith in her Savior. What a fantastic mother the Lord blessed us with. We will all miss her but know she is now safe and pain free in the arms of Jesus.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; sisters, Annie, Ruby and her husband Don, Phyllis and her husband Lester; brothers, Vernon, Melvin and Leonard; brother-in-law, Vernon; and nephew, Dennis. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Jerry, and Judy and her husband, Ron; grandchildren: Tim and wife, Sherry, Amy and husband, Mark; sister, Diann; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
