IvaLee Sophia Kuhlmann was born on October 31, 1925, in Charter Oak, Iowa, to William and Amanda (Nemitz) Greene. She was baptized on November 29, 1925, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hanover Township, and later confirmed on April 2, 1939, at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. IvaLee attended St. John Lutheran Schools.
On September 29, 1946, IvaLee was united in marriage to Gerald Kuhlmann at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hanover Township. The couple was blessed with five children and made their home on the family farm near Charter Oak. IvaLee worked tirelessly alongside her husband on the farm, helping feed the cattle and faithfully bringing lunch and supper to the fields. She was also devoted to her role as a homemaker and a mother.
IvaLee was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. She was active in LWML, and faithfully served her church, assisting with confirmation and Sunday school, and loved being in the choir the most. She possessed a remarkable memory, committing countless hymns and Bible verses to heart throughout her life, serving as the spiritual cornerstone of her family. She also enjoyed her time as a member of Clubettes and Bridge Club. IvaLee was instrumental in fundraising to build the Charter Oak swimming pool. She was an avid sports fan and especially cheered for her favorite teams, the New York Yankees and the Iowa State Cyclones. IvaLee also found great joy in attending and watching her grandchildren participate in their many activities.
IvaLee passed away on February 17, 2026, at her home in Charter Oak, at the age of 100 years, three months and 17 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gerald Kuhlmann; son, Richard Kuhlmann; sister, Lois Kuhlmann; brothers: Bill Greene and Ron Greene.
She is survived by her children: Kathryn (Al) Sievers of Polk City, Mark (Kelley) Kuhlmann of Charter Oak, Julie (Chuck) Woodworth of Granger, Kristin (Troy) Christensen of Winterset; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Phyllis Creese of Charter Oak; many nieces and nephews; and other family members and friends.
Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., with visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., on Friday, February 20, 2026, at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. Inurnment will follow in the St. John Cemetery near Charter Oak. The family will direct memorials.
