Jim Hill

James Henry Hill was born on May 21, 1961, son of Harold Henry and Viola Mae (Nobiling) Hill in Spirit Lake, Iowa. He was baptized and later confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, where he remained a lifelong member. Jim received his education from Schleswig schools and graduated with the class of 1979.

Following his education, Jim farmed alongside his parents. After his father passed away in 1991, Jim took over the family ground and continued the farming legacy his parents had built. He took great pride in following in his father’s footsteps and caring for the farm in a way that would make his parents proud. In addition to farming, Jim spent many years on the road trucking.

On May 15, 1981, Jim married Karen Louise Bruck at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. They were blessed with two children, Matthew and Janet. Following Karen’s passing, Jim later found love again and married Tammy Marie Aldag on April 16, 1993, at St. John Lutheran Church in Kiron. They were blessed with two children, Jessica and Ryan. Jim and Tammy later parted ways.

Jim was mechanically inclined and had a natural talent for finding a problem and figuring out how to fix it. He had a love for Mopar muscle cars and Harley-Davidson motorcycles and enjoyed tractor pulls as well as attending bike and car shows.

In 2012, Jim built a pond on his farm in tribute to his parents, creating a special place where family could fish, swim and simply spend time together enjoying the meaningful moments in life. Jim cherished making memories with his grandchildren. In his later years, he especially enjoyed sleepovers, trips to Dairy Queen and time at the pond with Charlotte and Hannah.

Jim passed away, surrounded by his four children, on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll, Iowa, at the age of 65 years, four months and five days. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Karen Hill; and two brothers: Kevin Roslansky and Curtis Hill.

Jim is survived by his four children: Matthew (Jill) Hill of Norwalk, Janet (Andy) Clark of Des Moines, Jessica (Dustin) Ogren of Schleswig and Ryan Hill of Schleswig; grandchildren: Sheldon, Evan, Peyton, Kolten, Aidan, Katelyn, Charlotte and Hannah; siblings: Doris Hill, Craig (Susan) Pauling, Roger Nelson, Lisa Roslansky, Linda Roslansky and Mike (Jody) Roslansky; and other family members and many friends.

Visitation with family and friends will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. His funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. Interment will be held in the Morgan Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family for donations to be made in his memory.
