James Herbert “Jim” Irvine passed from this world on January 6th, 2026 at Crawford County Memorial Hospital. He was 83 years old.
Born August 22, 1942 in Rhode Island to John W. Irvine and Lois Holder, Jim would grow up in Council Bluffs, Iowa and Corpus Christi, Texas.
He graduated from Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson High School and attended Creighton University in Omaha for three years.
In 1969, he welcomed his daughter Andrea into the world.
In 1981, he married Margaret Rebecca “Becky” Nelson, and seven years later their first son, Brandon was born.
Brandon was followed two years later by Brennan, and Braeden followed five years after that.
Jim was an avid reader and enjoyed especially science-fiction, a passion that extended to TV and movies, and was passed down to his sons.
He was preceded in death by his wife Becky and his parents John and Lois.
In lieu of traditional funeral and burial, he has donated his body to science, to help medical students at his alma mater of Creighton become better healers of future generations.
He is survived by his sisters Lin Holder, Sunny Brodsky, Tricia Cottrell (Hal), brother Carter Holder (Miriam), daughter Andrea Wahle (Jeff), sons Brandon, Brennan and Braeden (Salem), two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
A memorial visitation with family and friends will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. Jim donated his body to Creighton University, and his cremated remains will be placed next to his wife in Mississippi at a later date. The family will direct memorials.
