James Michael “Jim” Randol, more affectionately known as “Nanners,” was born on April 27, 1950, the son of Wayne D. and Betty Jean (Anderson) Randol in Scotts Bluff, Nebraska. He was baptized and later confirmed into the Lutheran faith. Jim received his education from Dow City-Arion Community Schools and graduated with the class of 1968. He was drafted into the United States Marine Corps, where he spent time on the Ticonderoga, and served until his honorable discharge.
On December 1, 1973, Jim was united in marriage to Rebecca “Becky” Slater at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Dow City. They were blessed with three children and made their home in Dow City for more than 50 years.
Jim worked at Farmland Foods in Denison for more than 43 years before making his well-deserved retirement in 2012. He also spent time delivering pizzas for Deb’s Deli and working for local farmers, always staying busy and willing to lend a hand.
Jim was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Dow City, the Dow City American Legion and the Dow City Dice League, an organization he was involved with for many years and greatly enjoyed. He loved being outdoors, especially fishing and hunting, with coon hunting being a particular favorite. He also enjoyed scratching lottery tickets, always willing to try his luck.
Nanners was a familiar face in the community and could routinely be found opening up at Ettleman’s for morning coffee and, of course, catching up on the daily gossip. He had a way of staying connected to what was happening around town and enjoyed the simple routines and friendships. Above all, Jim cherished the time he spent with his family.
Jim passed away on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at CHI Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa at the age of 76 years, four months and 14 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Betty Randol; parents-in-law, Jim and Dorothy J. Slater; brothers-in-law: Steve Slater and Tom Slater; and sister-in-law, Michelle Slater.
Jim is survived by his wife, Becky Randol of Denison; children: Jenifer Randol of Omaha, Nebraska, Melanie (Matt) Steinkuehler of Charter Oak, and James W. Randol (Shasta Smith) of Monticello; brothers: Rod Randol of Sioux City and Terry Randol of Lake City; brothers-in-law: Denny (Sandy) Slater of Denison and Curt Slater of Defiance; many nieces and nephews; and other family members and friends.
His Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m., with visitation from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison, please wear casual attire. The family will direct memorials.
