Jon Chase

June 1, 1987 — December 9, 2010

Jon "Kasey" Reiser Chase was born June 1, 1987, the son of Jon and Diane Reiser Chase. He passed away Thursday, December 9, 2010, in a motor vehicle accident on Highway 30 near Ogden, Iowa, at the age of 23.
Kasey was born in Denison, Iowa. He was baptized in Christ at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison and celebrated his First Holy Communion on April 30, 1995, at St. Rose. He was a smart student in school, first at Denison Community School and then at Woodbine Schools. In high school he participated in various sports including track, baseball, football and wrestling. He graduated from Woodbine High School in early January 2005 with high grades, and, without anyone knowing, signed up for four years with the U.S. Marine Corps. He was insistent in serving his country. He received numerous awards including Rifle Expert Badge, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Certificate of Commendation, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, NATO Medal- ISAF Afghanistan, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.
Kasey loved to go hunting, from squirrels and rabbits to deer and coyotes, and, well... just to be hunting made him happy. He was very athletic and tried to always be in good physical shape, so he went to the gym to work out every day.
He had the biggest and softest heart of anyone and was willing to help with anything. He had a contagious, heartwarming smile. He dearly loved his nieces and nephews and remembered their birthdays even when he was at war.
He served one year in Iraq and one year in Afghanistan as a Marine Corps Raider. He was our hero and was looked up to by his buddies fighting the war beside him. He was released from active duty March 20, 2010, with the rank of Cpl. He still had obligations with the Reserves until 2013. He was called to do a third deployment in war after his release but, after counseling, the Marines decided he should stay out of war for a while.
He began working with Healthy Home Systems of Carroll and was their top salesman. He loved the work and believed in what he was selling. He was so proud of his paycheck and was making plans for his future. He had just finished a sale at a home when the accident happened.
Kasey was preceded in death by his paternal grandfathers, Guilford Chase and Gene Swanson; great-grandfathers, Wilfred Schwarte and Ivo Blum; great-grandparents, Frank and Mary Reiser; and one aunt, Alice Campbell. Survivors include his mother, Diane Chase and her fianc, Thomas Gomez of Nickerson, Nebraska; his father, Jon Chase of Coos Bay, Oregon; two sisters: Alissa Flores and her fianc, Oscar Arguello; and Kendra Suarez and her husband, Luis, all of Denison; stepmother, Kayleen Chase of Belle Fourche, South Dakota; stepsister, Charleen Wendt and her husband, Randy of Neola, Iowa; stepbrother, Patrick Wilson of Woodbine; his maternal grandparents, Ron and Alice Reiser of Denison; his paternal grandmother, Faye Chase of Dunlap; and his maternal great-grandmother, Lavina Blum of Denison; five nieces, one nephew; and his special friend, Heather Lawson of Dunlap.
