Larry G. Clausen

November 17, 1939 — February 9, 2023

Larry Clausen, 83, passed away at home with his loving wife JoAnn at his side and surrounded by family on February 9, 2023. Born on a farm in Crawford County on November 17, 1939 to Andrew and Bernice Clausen, Larry was the oldest of three children. He had a brother, Leon (Phyllis) Clausen as well as a sister, Kathy (Wendell) Schwarz. Larry was baptized and confirmed at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig. He graduated from Schleswig High School in 1958.

Larry had dreamed of going to forestry school in Oregon but instead chose to marry his high school sweetheart and love of his life, JoAnn Aldag. They were united in marriage on December 6, 1959 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig by Pastor Wiese and remained active members of the church their entire lives.

Larry graduated from The Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin in 1977. While Larry enjoyed a 43-year career at Farmers State Bank, the greatest joy of Larry and JoAnn's life has been their family. They were blessed with three sons: Greg (Kathy) of Waukee, Grant (Janette) of Schleswig, and Gerrad (Carrie) of Granger. They are devoted grandparents to eight special grandchildren: Rachel (Mike), Reid and Ross; Colton ( friend Kenzie) Brittany (Cody) and Cody (friend Kelsey); Ellie and Grace.

Larry and JoAnn are also blessed with three great grandchildren: Reighlyn, Graham and Finnley.

Larry and JoAnn spent much of their time traveling the state of Iowa attending the events and activities of their grandchildren and cherish the annual family summer vacation on Lake Okoboji that has spanned more than 50 years.

Larry was committed to his country and community. He served in the Iowa National Guard and as a volunteer fireman for 23 years. He was the church Sunday School Superintendent and Treasurer, School Board Treasurer, a Boy Scout Troop 47 Scoutmaster, Member of the Board of Directors of Eventide, Schleswig Golf Course board member, Community Club member and Business Men's Club member.

Larry lived a full and vibrant life. His example of what it is to be a man of faith, family, and service will live on in his children and grandchildren.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents and other family members and friends.
