Larry Ray Thomsen was born June 11, 1962, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa. He passed away Friday, June 8, 2018, at the Missouri Valley Hospital at the age of fifty-five.
His parents, Thomas and Irene Thomsen lived on various farms in the Dow City area where Larry grew up. Larry participated in high school football along with his brother, Jerry. Larry’s interests were varied but shop was what drew him. He attended Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs after high school, obtaining dual degrees in diesel and automotive. After graduating, Larry came home to Dow City to work for Maurice (Buzz) Putnam. He worked on cars and farmed for several years for Buzz until his health deteriorated.
Larry enjoyed coyote hunting with the Dane Ridge Hunters. He was the prankster/jokester of the family and could always make someone laugh at his antics. He never grew up – he was always a kid at heart. Larry also enjoyed playing games and “doing research” on his computer. He was an avid animal lover, especially the host of German Shepherds the family had. He even had a calf – Herbie who thought he was a dog. Larry was extremely tenderhearted and always said “take care” and not goodbye.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents and his brother William (Bill). He is survived by his siblings: Karen, John, Sheryl and Jerry; his sister-in-law, Lory; other relatives and friends.
