Lyle Woodward Jr.

Lyle Allan Woodward Jr. was born on January 25, 1960, the son of Lyle Allan Sr. and Arlene (Kafton) Woodward in Sioux City, Iowa. Lyle was baptized and later confirmed at the First Baptist Church in Kiron. He attended elementary school in Mapleton, Denison and Kiron and went on to graduate from Denison High School with the Class of 1978.

On October 11, 1980, Lyle was united in marriage to Judy Willroth at the First Baptist Church in Kiron. The couple made their home in Denison for a short time before settling on a farm near Kiron, where they raised their four sons. Lyle dedicated 45 years to Iowa Beef Processors, which later became Tyson Foods, until the plant closed. In 2015, he and Judy relocated to Dakota Dunes, South Dakota, where Lyle continued his career in a corporate role.

Throughout his life, Lyle remained active in his faith, first as a member of the First Baptist Church in Kiron and later at Elevate Community Church in Sioux City. He was also a proud member of the Schleswig Wine Club. Lyle loved the outdoors and found joy in fishing and hunting, especially the quiet early mornings spent turkey hunting. He played slow-pitch softball for several years and devoted much of his time to youth sports, coaching little league baseball and his sons’ soccer teams. Golfing with his brothers, sons and wife was another favorite pastime. Above all, Lyle cherished spending time with his family and his grandchildren were the apple of his eye.

Lyle passed away surrounded by his family and friends on Friday, July 25, 2025, at his home in Dakota Dunes, South Dakota at the age of 65 years and six months. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Nathan Woodward.

Lyle is survived by his wife of 44 years, Judy Woodward of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota; children: Shawn (Jill) Woodward of Carrollton and their children, Vana, Brianna and Emma Woodward, Christopher Woodward of Kiron, Travis (Ariella) Woodward of Ashton and their children, Ryan, Logan, Coltan and Lilly Ann Woodward; brothers: Dennis (Jill) Woodward, Bryan (Rebecca) Woodward and Rolland (Suzanne) Woodward; sister, Tina (Benjamin) Schulte; nieces and nephews; and many other family members and friends.

Visitation with family greeting friends will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 28, 2025, at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. His funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at the First Baptist Church in Kiron. Interment will follow in the Kiron Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to St. Croix Hospice.
