Lynn Eric Rickers was born on October 1, 1961, in Denison, Iowa, the son of Robert and Linda (Vergith) Rickers. He was baptized and later confirmed in the Presbyterian faith. Lynn received his education at Ar-We-Va Elementary and High School, graduating with the Class of 1980. He went on to Iowa State University for a semester-long session of their agricultural program.
On July 11, 1987, Lynn was united in marriage to Darla Thomsen at the United Presbyterian Church in Vail. Together, they were blessed with two sons, Cody Lynn and Kyle Eric.
Lynn dedicated much of his life to farming and trucking. He worked at the local co-op as a sprayer operator, earning the nickname “Captain Anhydrous” for his diligence and caution when handling the dangerous chemical. Trucking became his greatest passion, particularly in the agricultural industry, allowing him to travel across much of the United States. He especially loved the scenic landscapes of the West, with a fondness for Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
A devoted fan of NASCAR, especially Richard Petty, as well as the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Pittsburgh Steelers, Lynn enjoyed cheering on his favorite teams. He also liked relaxing with old TV shows. Known for his sense of humor, he loved to make people laugh and not take life too seriously, though he could be serious when it mattered.
Lynn cherished fishing trips with his sons and picking plums for his dad. As a father, he shared his passion for trucking, teaching his boys the skills of the road with the experience of travelling two million miles. His sons have countless memories of riding in the truck with him and going on family vacations, many of them to Kansas City.
Lynn passed away on Monday, September 22, 2025, at Regency Park Nursing Home in Carroll at the age of 63 years, 11 months and 21 days. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Lynn is survived by his two sons: Cody Rickers of Manilla and Kyle Rickers (Melissa Thomas) of Cedar Rapids; brother, Terry (Cathy) Rickers of Newton; sister, Christy Rickers of Vail; nieces and nephews: Rachel Anderson, Ahren Rickers, Brian Zavitz, Joe Thomsen, Josh Thomsen and Sabrena Van Dyk; his cat, Mike; and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation with family and friends will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison.
