Marilyn Jean Pirwitz

July 27, 1931 — September 10, 2023

Marilyn Jean Pirwitz was born on July 27, 1931, the daughter of William and Louise (Wulf) Groth near Denison, Iowa. She was baptized in Christ and later confirmed her faith on April 25, 1946, at the Friedens Evangelical Reformed Church in Schleswig. She received her education in a rural country school, Goodrich Number 3, near her home. After graduating from the eighth grade, she remained at home to help her parents, as well as worked as a hired girl in various homes in the area.

Marilyn was united in marriage to Darlo Pirwitz at Friedens Evangelical Reformed Church in Schleswig on June 1, 1958. The couple settled on the family farm, and they were blessed with one son, Dennis and twin daughters: Karen and Kay. She kept busy as a homemaker on the farm, raising chickens and ducks. Marilyn loved to cook meals and baked goodies for the family.

Marilyn was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society. Marilyn loved to be with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed listening and dancing to polkas and waltzes with her family and friends. After Darlo passed away in July of 2005, she started working as a custodian at St. John Lutheran Church and school in Charter Oak and continued to do so for 10 years. She also spent time working with the altar, newsletters, and ladies’ aid.

Marilyn passed away on Sunday, September 10, 2023, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison at the age of 92 years, one month and 14 days.
