Marian Jane Graham Precht was born October 27, 1934, the daughter of Earl and Laura Brandt Graham. She died Wednesday, September 28, 2016, at the Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa, at the age of eighty-one.
Mary was born in Vail, Iowa and received her education in the Vail Community Schools, graduating with the class of 1952. Mary (known as Mary Jane) was a star basketball player at Vail High School. She worked and lived in Marshalltown, Iowa before continuing her education at cosmetology school in Sioux City, Iowa. After completing cosmetology school she worked in Carroll until her marriage to Frank Precht on September 2, 1956 in Vail. The couple made their home in Iowa City while Frank finished college and Mary continued to work until Frank's graduation. They then moved to Chicago for 30 years for Frank's career where Mary focused on her devotion to her husband and son, keeping them on track and running the household . After retiring, Mary and Frank moved to northern Wisconsin to enjoy fishing and nature. In 1991 they moved to Vail for a short time before returning to Denison where Mary and Frank, and then just Mary, lived for the next 24 years. Throughout much of their retirement Mary and Frank spent winters in Las Vegas where they loved the life style and playing nickel poker machines. Mary, a private person, was an adoring Daughter, Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Aunt. She loved sports, reading and fishing at Black Hawk Lake and Moose Lake in Northern Wisconsin.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank; and one sister, Theresa and her husband, John. Survivors include: one son, Tom and his wife, Jane; three grandchildren: Grant, Marshall and Sarah Jane; one great-granddaughter, Rebel Ray; one brother, Earl and his wife, Sharon; many nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends.
