Mary Kuehnhold

Mary Ella Kuehnhold was born June 9, 1929, the daughter of Lewis and Isetta Blodgett Carey. She died Saturday, January 29, 2011, at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, at the age of eighty-one.
Mary was born in Dunsmuir, California. She received her education and graduated from the Chico High School in 1947. She cared for her family before working as a dietary assistant in a hospital in Chico. She also worked at Chico State University in the Food Service Department. On March 31, 1972, Mary was united in marriage to Melvin Kuehnhold in Carson City, Nevada. In 1974, the couple moved to Denison, Iowa and Mary worked at Eventide Lutheran Home until 1975 when they moved to Council Bluffs and she worked at the Iowa School for the Deaf in the food service. She also worked in a grocery store in West Point, Nebraska.
Mary was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who enjoyed cooking and baking for her family. She also enjoyed sewing, dancing, and playing the piano and organ. In her leisure time she enjoyed camping in California and Iowa, trips to Mazatlan, Mexico and Teton, Wyoming. In her younger years she enjoyed skiing at Mt. Shasta in, California.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Daniel; one daughter, Deanna; two sisters, Alva and Dorothy; and one brother, Lewis. Survivors include her husband, Melvin; one son, Rev. Paul and his wife, Louisa; one daughter, Druecilla; seven grandchildren: Kara, Jason, Christi, Alaina, Briana, Tina, and Robert; four great-grandchildren: Jeffery, Kenlynn, Kenyon and Keira; one brother-in-law, Vernon and his wife, Donna; three sisters-in-law, Betty; Joan and Gloria; many nieces, nephews, loved ones and friends.
